Textile Bow Pull-off TestSpecification The customer is a supplier to a major clothing retailer
who stipulates that all fasteners and
attachments must be tested to failure. The strength of the
joint/bow is critical to ensure that it meets design tolerance
and safety levels, particularly in baby clothing.
The system must be simple to use in a production environment
and provide consistent results hence the need
for a motorized unit. Test speed was defined as
200mm/min.
Solution
The lingerie material was clamped in a ‘Double Action
vice-grip’ with 50mm wide faces coated with non-slip
rubber to enhance gripping strength. The loop of the
bow is hooked over the extended peg hook and is
ready for the test. The joint or bow is pulled at
200mm/min until destruction. The peak tension load to
remove/break the bow is recorded at the fast data aquisition
speed of 1200Hz.
