How often should force measurement devices be calibrated?

We recommend that any force measurement device sold or serviced by Dillon/Quality Plus be recalibrated annually to maintain high standards of accuracy. The more often you use the unit, the more frequently you should get it recalibrated. For many of our digital products including digital dynamometers, you’ll get an automatic pop-up notification on the display when it’s time to send it in for calibration.

Precision Calibration You Can Trust

Our calibration services have fast turnaround times and are traceable to NIST standards. With every Dillon/Quality Plus purchase, you get a 2-year warranty, a 1-year recall sticker and automatic notification of calibration due dates (plus, every new unit is calibrated at no additional cost). We maintain extremely high standards of service, and all of our testing equipment is recertified by the manufacturer at least once a year.

Our calibration process for force measurement devices

1. Initial Inspection & Assessment

Once we receive the force measurement device, one of our experienced technicians will visually inspect it. If they see any problems (for example, a bent pointer on a mechanical unit), they’ll fix it or send you a quote for part replacement.

2. Precision Calibration Setup

If the unit passes the visual inspection, the technician installs it in one of our calibration machines, and loads it up at five points over the range of the unit.

3. Testing, Adjustment & Verification

We run 3 tests, and average the three sets of readings. If the result is out of tolerance range, our technicians take apart the unit, make any necessary adjustments, put it back together, and re-test until the average readings are within tolerance.

4. Final Cleaning & Quality Check

Before we ship it back to the customer, each force measurement product goes through a thorough cleaning and final inspection.

Comprehensive force measurement device and dynamometer repair services

Our experienced team of technicians has deep expertise in end-to-end force measurement and dynamometer repair, including:

  • Keypad replacement for digital products
  • LCD display repair or replacement for digital products
  • Circuit board repair, replacement, or reprogramming for digital products
  • Software updates for digital products
  • Upgrade from the “Non Radio” to the “Radio Ready” for the Dillon EDXtreme dynamometer
  • Part replacement and repair for mechanical dynamometers (natural wear and tear can cause breakdown of the moving parts or gauge movement, and affect the calibration and accuracy of the unit)

We pride ourselves on our fast turnaround times for repair. However, we also offer phone support if you can’t send your unit in. All our repair services come with a 30-day parts and workmanship warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about specifications, compatibility, or calibration requirements? Our team is ready to help. Contact us today.

Yes. We service Dillon, Crosby Straightpoint, MSI, and most other industry-standard dynamometers, tension meters, force gauges, crane scales, and load cells, not just units purchased through us. If you’re not sure whether we support your specific model, send us the make and model number and we’ll confirm before you ship anything.

Calibration verifies and documents that a unit is reading accurately against a known standard. Repair fixes a mechanical or electrical problem so the unit works correctly again. The two often go hand in hand, since any unit we repair gets recalibrated afterward to confirm it’s reading accurately again. When you send equipment in, our technicians identify which one (or both) your unit actually needs before any work begins, so you’re not paying for a service you don’t need.

Every calibration we perform includes a certificate showing the as-found and as-left readings at each test point, the reference standards used, the date of calibration, and confirmation of NIST traceability. This documentation is built to hold up under ISO 9001, AS9100, and similar quality audits. If your auditor has a specific format requirement, let us know before we begin and we’ll make sure the certificate matches it.

Standard calibration turnaround runs a few business days once we receive the unit, though exact timing depends on the equipment type and current volume. Repairs take longer if parts need to be ordered, which is why our technicians inspect and quote any needed parts up front rather than partway through the job. If you’re on a deadline, tell us when you request your quote. We can often expedite, or point you toward our loaner/rental options to keep you working in the meantime.

In most cases, yes. An out-of-tolerance reading usually points to a specific, repairable cause, whether that’s worn mechanical components, a damaged load cell, or a circuit board issue. Our technicians diagnose that cause during the same inspection that flags the failure and quote any necessary repair before proceeding. In the rare case a unit isn’t economical to repair, we’ll tell you that too rather than continue billing for work on equipment that should be replaced.
