A dynamometer should be sized above the maximum load the equipment could realistically experience, not just the normal working load. Applications involving shock loading, dynamic lifting, or load testing can create higher peak forces than expected. It’s also important to consider shackle size, available headroom, and how the dynamometer will connect into the rigging setup.
Wireless dynamometers are commonly used when operators need to monitor loads from a safe distance or when the load is difficult to view during lifting or testing. They’re often used in crane operations, offshore work, heavy fabrication, and multi-point load monitoring applications. Wireless systems also make it easier to share readings with multiple crew members during a lift or test.
A dynamometer is typically used to measure force or tension in lifting, rigging, and load testing applications. A crane scale is generally intended for weighing suspended loads. While the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, dynamometers are more commonly selected when monitoring load forces or verifying safe loading conditions is the priority.
Bluetooth-connected dynamometers are useful when load data needs to be recorded, reviewed, or shared after testing. They can simplify documentation during inspections, proof load tests, and recurring maintenance work by reducing manual data entry. App-connected systems are especially helpful for teams that regularly track or export load measurements for reporting purposes.
Outdoor applications often require a dynamometer that can handle moisture, dust, temperature changes, and continuous field use without affecting performance. Environmental protection ratings, display visibility, wireless range, and battery life can all become important depending on the job site conditions. In harsh environments, durability and reliability are usually more important than additional display or interface features.
